Introducing Alder: the AI employee for accounts receivable

Today we're introducing Alder, an AI employee for accounts receivable. Until this month we were called Nivara. Same team, same company, new name.

Alder works alongside your AR team. It finds out why each invoice is late, fixes what it can, and brings your team in when something needs a decision. Nothing reaches a customer without your approval.

Late invoices are usually stuck, not refused

In the US, 43% of B2B invoice value is overdue and 5% is written off as bad debt, according to the Atradius Payment Practices Barometer, US 2025.

When you look at why a specific invoice is late, the customer has rarely decided not to pay. Something small is in the way:

  • The approval is sitting with someone who's on leave.
  • The customer's AP portal rejected the invoice, and nobody noticed.
  • The PO number is missing, so AP can't release payment.
  • Your AP contact left, and emails to them go unanswered.
  • The customer paid less than the invoice, and nobody has looked into why.
  • They said it was on Friday's payment run, and it never arrived.

Reminder emails on a schedule don't fix any of these. Someone has to read the thread, work out what's wrong, and do the specific thing that unblocks it. On most finance teams that person is already stretched, so the list of overdue invoices keeps growing.

What Alder does

Alder does that work, one account at a time.

  • Collections: Alder follows up with the person who can release payment, in the original email thread. It keeps track of every promise to pay and checks the bank feed on the day.
  • Approvals and AP portals: Alder submits invoices into Coupa, Ariba, and custom portals, catches rejections, fixes them, and resubmits.
  • Disputes and short payments: Alder pulls the invoice, purchase order, receipt, and payment, and gives your analyst the evidence to decide.
  • Cash application: Alder matches incoming payments to invoices and remittances, applies the clean matches, and flags the rest for your team.

It works in the tools you already use: Gmail or Outlook, Slack or Teams, NetSuite, SAP, or QuickBooks, and your bank. There's nothing to migrate. See the integrations.

Your team stays in control

Collections is customer-facing, so Alder earns trust in stages.

  • It starts read-only. Alder learns how your team works before it writes anything.
  • You set the rules once: tone, escalation thresholds, and which accounts need a person.
  • Anything a customer will see waits for your approval.
  • Every action is logged, attributable, and reversible.
  • Your data is never used to train models, ours or anyone's.

Who we are

Alder was founded by ex-Uber engineers and is backed by Y Combinator. We work closely with financial controllers at public companies.

Getting started

We start with one workflow, usually collections or AP portals, and go live in 3 days. Once it's working on your volume, we add the next one.

If you'd like to see where your cash is stuck, book 30 minutes with me and we'll go through your overdue invoices together. You can also email us at founders@meetalder.com.
